Louise Yelin

Louise Yelin, professor emerita of literature, taught at Purchase College for 36 years, from 1980 to 2016. In addition to teaching in the literature program in the college’s School of Humanities, she participated in the interdisciplinary gender studies program.
During her distinguished career at the college, she was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997 and named Doris and Carl Kempner Distinguished Professor for 2006–08, an honor that accompanies a competitive two-year senior faculty research award. From 2008 to 2010, Yelin served as the interim dean of the School of Humanities and then as chair of the school from 2010 to 2013.
