Claire Buck is Professor Emerita of English and affiliate faculty with Women’s and Gender Studies at Wheaton College. She co-founded and directed the Wheaton Center for Teaching and Learning from 2018 to 2022. She is the author of Conceiving Strangeness in British First World War Writing (2015), H.D. and Freud: Bisexuality and a Feminine Discourse (1991) and editor of The Bloomsbury Guide to Women’s Literature (1992), as well as numerous articles on Modernism, women’s war poetry, and the First World War.

Her research and interests are First World War literature and culture, Modernism and modernity, contemporary poetry, feminist theory, and the history of sexuality. Dr. Buck is also a member of the Steering Committee and membership secretary for the Society for the Space Between Society, which organizes an annual conference on literature and culture between 1949 and 1945, and publishes the Space Between journal. She is also a Board member of the Rhode Island Women’s Fund
